Vellinghausen Castle is a historic structure in the Soest district of North Rhine-Westphalia. Originally built as a lowland castle, it later acquired Baroque elements through modifications.

History+

The construction of Vellinghausen Castle is dated to around 1300, when Rötger von Galen, who also named himself after the location, presumably had the estate built on the foundations of an older complex. In 1564 and again in 1566, an inheritance division took place between the brothers Heinrich and Dieter von Galen, with the castle passing to Heinrich and his wife Clara von Vridag. It is believed that they completed the construction work in 1598. Through the marriage of their daughter Dorothea to Johann von Neheim in 1569, the castle came into his possession.
