Vorst Castle

The origins of Burg Vorst likely date back to the 11th century. However, its first documented mention occurred in 1297, when it was recorded as the estate of a Hermanus de Foresto. For centuries, the complex served as a knight's seat until it was burned down by French troops around 1795. Subsequently, it found a new purpose as a hunting lodge. Between 1832 and 1834, a neo-Gothic manor house was built on the foundations of the former palas. In 1948, the painter Werner Peiner acquired the castle and carried out extensive restoration work. After his death, the complex became the property of the Albanus family and was listed as a monument by the city of Leichlingen in 1984.
