Wadendorf Castle

The first documented mention of Wadendorf Castle dates back to 1453. At that time, the Bamberg Bishop Anton von Rotenhan granted the brothers Bartholomäus and Andreas von Königsfeld permission to convert their manor in Wadendorf into a castle. This complex was enfeoffed to the Bishop of Bamberg. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the castle suffered damage, after which the then owner Klaus von Königsfeld was awarded compensation of 2060 Gulden. In 1580/1581, Wilhelm von Königsfeld sold the estate to Sebastian Neustetter-Stürmer. In 1590, it passed to Pankraz von und zu Mengersdorf and in 1601 to Daniel von Aufseß. Further destruction occurred in 1638 during the Thirty Years' War; the exact time of its reconstruction is not recorded. In 1650, Hans Wilhelm von Aufseß zu Wüstenstein sold the lordship to Eva von Schlammersdorf.
