Wasserburg Castle, often also referred to as a palace, stands on a spur above the Inn River in the town of the same name. Although its name suggests otherwise, it is not a classic water castle, but rather a spur or ridge castle that largely encloses the town.

History+

The early history of the complex is largely unknown. A document naming Hallgraf Engelbert von Attel as founder in the mid-12th century was later exposed as a forgery. In 1247, after a 17-week siege, the castle fell to Duke Ludwig II the Strict, thus becoming Wittelsbach property.
