Wegberg Castle, once also known as Haus Potz, is a historic complex in the town of Wegberg. Originally a moated castle from the 14th century, only a few remnants of the original fortifications remain today, while the current manor house dates from the late 19th century and serves as a hotel and restaurant.

History+

The origins of Wegberg Castle date back to the 14th century. In 1343, Johann von Berck died, whose family owned a castle at the confluence of the Fußbach and Beecker Bach, then called Burg Berck. Through the marriage of his daughter, the castle passed to the von dem Bongardt family. In 1524, Sophia von dem Bongardt inherited the complex and married Johann von Nesselrode in 1547, bringing the castle into the possession of the Counts of Nesselrode-Ehreshoven.
