Weiher-Kastell Castle (Breyell)
The Kastell was built as a water-surrounded three-wing complex. Its first historical mention dates back to 1311. The first known owners of this estate were members of the widespread noble family von Krickenbeck. After destruction in the Thirty Years' War, the owners of Kamphausen had to build a new manor house, which still exists today. The two-story building is dated to 1634 by wall anchors.
The Kastell is an essential testimony to Breyell's history. It has been in changing private ownership for decades and has not been accessible to the public until now. The current owner, Gert-Friedrich von Preußen, has been a citizen of Nettetal since 2003 and is interested in opening his house for cultural events. Thus, the Jagdhornbläserkorps Schloss Krickenbeck, the MGV Liedertafel Breyell, and the Niederrheinchor have already given concerts there.
The Kastell is the namesake of the annual cycling race "Rund ums Weyer Kastell", which is organized by the sports club SC Union Nettetal.
