Wendelstein Castle

The first documented mention of Wendelstein Castle dates back to 1312, in connection with the possessions of the Counts of Rabenswalde. Originally owned by the Counts of Weimar, it was sold to Christian von Witzleben due to high debts, who subsequently expanded it. The oldest part of the castle, situated in front of the west wing, still shows remnants of a Romanesque chapel. In the 16th century, specifically 1560 and 1590, further renovations transformed the castle into a residential palace. The north wing from the late Renaissance is only partially preserved today. In 1623, Wendelstein came into the possession of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony.
