Wernberg Castle

Wernberg Castle was first documented in 1280 in a purchase agreement. Originally owned by the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg, it was sold to Konrad von Paulsdorf. Through the marriage of his daughter Adelheid to Engelhard Notthafft von Wildstein, the castle came into the possession of the Notthafft family. In 1367, Heinrich I Notthafft pledged his allodial Wernberg Castle as a fief to the Kingdom of Bohemia, a bond that lasted until the Peace of Pressburg in 1805. The castle served as the ancestral seat of the Wernberg line of the Notthaffts until it was sold in 1509 to Georg Wispeck von Velburg.
