Wissem Castle

The first owner of Burg Wissem mentioned by name was Rembold von Plettenberg in 1435. Through inheritance, the property passed to Johann von Zweiffel in 1511, whose son Caspar undertook extensive renovations from 1548 and had the outer bailey, also known as the Remise, built, which is still preserved today. In 1646, ownership changed hands to the von Cortenbach family through marriage. Further owners included Johann Ernst von Landsberg zu Olpe (from 1784) and Franz Bernhard von Hocherbach. In 1826, Friedrich von Hövel inherited the castle but sold it two years later to Ernst August von Beust. In 1833, Baron Clemens von Loë acquired the property. His descendant Maria von Loë, Baroness von Elverfeldt, sold Burg Wissem to the municipality of Troisdorf in 1939. After World War II, from 1945 to 1981, the castle served as the municipal town hall.
