Wolfhagen Castle

The origins of Wolfhagen Castle date back to 1230 to 1231, when it was likely erected together with the town by the Ludowingians on Mainz territory. An early fortification of rampart, ditch, and palisades soon gave way to a stone wall, completed by 1302, which completely enclosed the town. Eleven towers reinforced this complex. The castle itself was first mentioned in documents in 1246 and underwent a reconstruction in 1513. It later served as a court location but fell into disrepair by the end of the 16th century and was demolished in the early 17th century, with the octagonal keep already being pulled down in 1606.
