Wolfsegg Castle stands on a rock cone above the village of the same name in Bavaria. Its special feature lies in its consistently preserved Gothic building fabric, as it was never destroyed.

History+

The construction of Wolfsegg Castle is presumed to have taken place around 1278, likely by Wolf von Schönleiten, who is considered its namesake. It was first documented in 1358, when Duke Ludwig of Bavaria enfeoffed the daughters of the deceased builder with the castle. In 1367, the complex passed into the possession of the Lords of Laaber, who held it until their lineage died out in 1475. Later, the castle belonged to the Lordship of Pfalz-Neuburg and from 1575 to the Regensburg patrician family Thumer.
