Zievel Castle

Burg Zievel was first documented in 1107, when it was owned by the Counts of Limburg. In the same century, specifically 1169, a Gerhardus de Zivele appeared in the annals. In the 13th century, the castle belonged to the Lords of Zievel, who descended from the noble family of Daun. In the 14th century, ownership transferred to the Schmeich von Lissingen family, with Knight Johann Schmeich von Lissingen being named as owner from 1337. In the 15th century, Karl von Metternich acquired the castle, which then passed to the Metternich-Müllenark family in the 17th century through inheritance. By the end of the 18th century, it was owned by the von Roth family.
