Zündorf Castle (Köln)
Not only the people of Cologne were dependent on customs duties or customs revenues, but also the Duke of Berg. Since the 15th century, he collected the Rhine toll in Zündorf as revenue. The Zollturm (Customs Tower), which was formerly a residential tower, may still commemorate this today; it probably dates from the second half of the 13th century. After a fire, it was restored as a storage room in 1864 and rebuilt between 1975 and 1980 according to plans by Gottfried Böhm. The tower is used by the local heritage society, which also holds exhibitions there.
