Burgsahr Castle

The origins of Burghaus Burgsahr date back, with Burgsahr, together with Freisheim, forming a sub-lordship of the Archdiocese of Cologne. It was originally part of the Altenahr fiefdom of Uprath. In 1364, the Lords of Gymnich were first enfeoffed with the property. The sub-lordship passed to the Blankart zu Ahrweiler family in 1458. After their extinction in 1712, ownership transferred to families related by marriage. At the beginning of the 19th century, the estates came into the possession of various bourgeois families through sales.
