Schwenkenhof Manor

To be privately owned

The Schwenkenhof (Schwenke'scher Hof) is located at Hasestraße 19 in Haselünne, Emsland, Lower Saxony. After the abandonment of the episcopal castle, the castle men settled in the city from 1346/47. Of around twenty-two attested farms, seven remain. The house is considered the seat of Johann von Schwenke. It was built around the middle of the 16th century as a castle man's court for the von Schwenke family.

From 1652 to 1669, Poor Clares lived here until their monastery in the Neustadt was ready for occupancy. In the 18th century, it belonged to the merchant and mayor Anton Niehaus; later it served as a sacristan's residence. The heavily altered corner house of half-timbering and plaster is single-story and eaves-side under a hipped roof with a half-hip. The south gable still projects on profiled corbels; to the west is an aisle under a lean-to roof. The east wall was later replaced, the north gable was modernly fronted with a shop. An older stone cellar remains.
