Aichelberg Castle
On an extinct volcanic vent of the Swabian Alb stand the Aichelberg Castle remains, once the ancestral seat of the Counts of Aichelberg. This hilltop castle ruin is located southeast of the village of Aichelberg.
History+
The construction of Aichelberg Castle took place between 1150 and 1200 by the Lords of Aichelberg. In 1334, the complex passed into the possession of the Counts of Württemberg. The castle was looted and destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525. Following this destruction, the ruin served as a quarry, with substantial parts of the building being dismantled by 1596.

Visitors can explore the remaining vestiges of the castle ruin. Parts of the rampart and the neck ditch, as well as minor masonry remnants, are still visible from the former complex. The castle site is freely accessible and covers an area of approximately 32 by 13 meters.
