Düsselbach Castle
West of the village of Düsselbach in the municipality of Vorra, in the Middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land, Bavaria, lie the remains of the 'Burgrest Altes Schloss', a former, presumably High Middle Ages noble castle. The complex once served as a hill castle and is now a freely accessible viewpoint.
History+
The history of the castle is largely unknown. There are no confirmed historical records regarding its construction, its builder, or its original name. Ceramic finds suggest an origin in the 13th century, while other conjectures hint at an earlier dating to the 11th or 12th century. A first mention appears on a map by Paul Pfinzing from 1596, where the location is referred to as “Bei dem alten Schlosssteinhügel” (At the Old Castle Hill). The exact circumstances of its abandonment or destruction are also not recorded.
