The remains of the castle can be visited

The castle remains of Bindstein are a high medieval spur castle, whose remnants are located on a rock spur in the Eselsburger Valley near Herbrechtingen. Once the ancestral seat of the Lords of Bindstein, today only minor wall remains are preserved.

History+

Bindstein Castle was probably built in the 12th century and served as the home of the lower nobility Lords of Bindstein. The name "Binstein" was first documented in 1171, when Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa transferred the fief of Bindstein, which he had previously acquired, to the Herbrechtingen Monastery.
