Davensberg Castle

The origins of Davensberg Castle likely date back to around 1250, when it was probably founded by the Lords of Meinhövel. Around 1320, part of the complex came into the possession of the noble Lords of Büren, a family from the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn, who also acquired the remaining property around 1360. The round tower visible today was likely built between 1500 and 1530 as part of an expansion. In 1589, the castle changed hands again, passing to the Lords of Morrien and Wolf von Füchteln through marriage. During the Thirty Years' War, the complex suffered damage in 1634 from Lüneburg troops who set it on fire. From 1750 onwards, the castle gradually fell into disrepair, after the Morrien family had become sole owners in 1736.
