The remains of the castle can be visited

The Everstein castle remains are the ruins of a once two-part hilltop castle in the Weserbergland region. It is located on the elevations of Großer and Kleiner Everstein in the Burgberg ridge and was the original ancestral seat of the Counts of Everstein.

History+

The Everstein castle was founded at the beginning of the 12th century. The first documented mention of the complex on the Burgberg dates to 1226. In 1265, the mention of a “castrum Everstein maius” indicates that both Großer and Kleiner Everstein were built with independent castles at that time. In 1284, the castle passed into Welf possession.
