Heidenstein Castle
In Gräfenberg-Haidhof in the Forchheim district, Bavaria, Germany, are the Heidenstein castle remains, also known as Burgstall Schlossberg. The former High Medieval noble castle lies at an elevation of approx. 550 m above sea level and is part of the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park.

The origins of the Heidenstein castle remains likely date back to the second half of the 12th century, with the complex already falling into disrepair in the early 13th century. No written records about the castle have survived, and its original name is unknown. However, an indirect mention can be found in a terrain reconnaissance by the Imperial City of Nuremberg from 1504/05, which describes a “halt at the Flöß” – a defensive position at this location.
