The remains of the castle can be visited

The Hüneberg castle remains, also known as Burghalde, are the ruins of a former hilltop castle on a sandstone ridge above the municipality of Sipplingen in the Bodenseekreis. Preserved are wall remnants of the residential tower.

History+

The construction of Hüneberg Castle is presumed to have taken place in the 12th century, attributed to the Lords of Hüneberg. Gerungus de Huneberc, a member of this noble family, was first mentioned in a document in 1171. Initially serving as ministeriales of Reichenau Abbey, the Lords of Hüneberg entered the service of the Counts of Heiligenberg from the 13th century onwards. The lineage died out during the 14th century, which initiated the decay of the castle. In 1494, a part of the former castle area was sold by a citizen of Constance.
