The remains of the castle can be visited

The Hürben Castle remains are those of a high medieval hilltop castle, near Giengen an der Brenz in the district of Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg. As the former ancestral seat of the local Hürben nobility, it is closely linked to the Staufer dynasty and various noble families.

History+

The first documented mention of Hürben Castle dates back to 1135, when a Teginhart de huirwin appeared as a witness to a donation. The Hürben family, likely Staufer ministerials, named the castle after the flowing stream “Hürbe”. Further mentions of family members appear, including Otto von Hürben around 1171 and 1193, as well as Friedrich von Hürben in 1216 and Bilgerinus von Hürben in 1226. After 1226, the castle frequently changed hands: in 1227, it was sold to the Counts of Dillingen, and in 1286, it passed to the Counts of Helfenstein.
