Hürgerstein Castle

The history of Hürgerstein Castle is only fragmentarily preserved. It was likely the ancestral seat of the Hürger family, who held a fiefdom in Dettingen. A member of this lineage, Hurgerus Miles, was first documented in 1216. Later mentions include Hedwig von Hürgerstein in 1264, and Konrad and Ulrich Hürger in 1328, with the latter later calling himself Ulrich von Hürgerstein. Between 1344 and 1400, Konrad and Hans der Hürger are attested. Through marriage, the castle came into the possession of the Lords Schwelher von Wielandstein.
