Hundeluft Castle

Hundeluft Castle, also known colloquially as Hunneloff, is the ruin of a moated castle in Hundeluft in the Wittenberg district of Saxony-Anhalt. It is located at approximately 92 m above sea level at the southeastern exit of the village at Roßlauer Straße 1.

The castle was first documented in 1280 when it was conquered by Johann II. In 1307, it was first mentioned as a village with a manor. On February 8, 1414, Hundeluft Castle was captured by Prince Albrecht of Zerbst after a short siege. The robber knights Cuno and Godemar Walwitz fled to Dessau. The castle and village of Hundeluft remained in the possession of Prince Albrecht. In 1457, it was then sold to the knight Albrecht von Zerbst.

After the last hereditary lord of the von Zerbst family sold Hundeluft Castle and village to the Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst in 1735, the castle was no longer used for residential purposes. In the second half of the 18th century, the buildings were dismantled. The material was used for constructions in the village and on the estate.

Only remnants of the former castle complex remain. Today, events are held at the castle site.
