The Hunnesrück castle remains, a hilltop castle from the 13th century, are located in the Amtsberge near Dassel in the Northeim district.

History+

Hunnesrück Castle was built in the 13th century by the Counts of Dassel after the county was divided. Its first documented mention dates back to 1310, when Simon von Dassel sold the castle to Bishop Siegfried of Hildesheim. It served as the seat of the bailiff and was administered by various noble families. In 1367, the castle supported Bishop Gerhard von Berg with knights in the Battle of Dinklar.
