Kippekausen Castle
The Motte Kippekausen was a small motte-and-bailey castle secured by moats in today's residential area of Kippekausen. Remains of the foundation walls and the inner moat have been preserved to this day. Nothing of the outer moat and the drains can be seen anymore, at least since the construction of the road, darkly shaded in the picture.
The fortified settlement probably originated at the end of the 9th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1404. One of its owners was Heinrich von Merheim. After its decline in the 16th century, it continued to be used by the nearby Kippekausen Estate.
