In Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, the Kybfelsen castle remains, a former spur castle, are situated at approximately 793 meters above sea level.

History+

A spur castle on the Kybfelsen is first mentioned in the chronicle of Matthias von Neuenburg from the mid-14th century. The name “Kyburg” appeared in 1484 in the Weistum of Kappel. Finds from excavations in the 1920s confirm that the complex already existed in the late 11th or early 12th century, during the Zähringer rule in Breisgau. Reading ceramic finds date its use up to the 12th and early 13th centuries.
