Description+

The well-recognizable castle site is located on a spur projecting to the south, whose slopes fall very steeply. The spur was protected against the plateau by a neck ditch, now largely disturbed, and a protective wall broken through by a forest path. This approximately 55-meter-long, south-sloping outer bailey is followed by a wedge-shaped, several-meter-deep section ditch. The main area of the complex follows the section ditch, towering several meters above the outer bailey. Two circular depressions can be seen in the difficult-to-access main area. One depression is about one meter deep and enclosed by a flat wall. The second depression is about two meters deep and lined with fieldstones in the lower part. Alois Schneider suspects a cistern here. The main area is approximately rectangular. Its flanks in the area of the slopes and ditches are still very steep today. In the south, the main area is separated from the spur by another section ditch. The significantly narrower southern spur itself is again secured in the south by a section ditch, followed by an even narrower area on which no traces of former use can be seen. Landslides can be seen on the west side of this section.

Finds and secured documentary mentions of this spur castle, probably dating from the 12th/13th century, are not known. Alois Schneider considers it possible that the castle was used by the local nobility of Limpach, who are documented around 1170 with an Albertus de Limpach and in 1282 with a Konrad de Lientbach.
