The Lindau Castle remains, also known as the Mushaus, is a prominent historical building in Katlenburg-Lindau, Lower Saxony. As one of the oldest preserved secular structures in the region, it bears witness to a rich history and, due to its robust construction, remains a striking feature in the landscape today.

The origins of Lindau Castle, to which the Mushaus belonged, date back a long time. A precise dating of the Mushaus's construction start is not possible, but it is presumed that construction began after 1322, when Bishop Otto II of Hildesheim acquired the already existing castle. The Mushaus, whose name possibly refers to tributes paid by farmers to their lords (from Middle High German “mute” for toll), was described in old chronicles as a “palacium” or ruler's palace.
