Neu-Sunthausen Castle

The construction of Neu-Sunthausen Castle, also simply called Sunthausen, took place in the second half of the 13th century by the lower noble Lords of Sunthausen. In 1413, the fortress changed hands when Hainrich von Sunthausen sold it to the Lords of Reischach. By the mid-15th century, Hans von Rechberg was in possession of the complex. The castle's fate was sealed in 1446 when Hans von Rechberg was in a feud with the city of Schaffhausen. The city destroyed the castle down to its foundations, although Hans himself managed to escape. Subsequently, the ruined complex returned to the possession of the Lords of Reischach, who sold the castle site in 1588 to the Counts of Fürstenberg.
