Neu-Sunthausen Castle

Neu-Sunthausen Castle, also known as Sunthausen, is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 770 m above sea level on the northeast side of the Kilteltal valley, about 2000 meters southeast of the Hausen district of the city of Geisingen in the district of Tuttlingen in Baden-Württemberg.

Sunthausen Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century by the lower nobility Lords of Sunthausen. In 1413, "Nuwen Sunthausen, die Feste" was then sold by Hainrich von Sunthausen to the Lords of Reischach, who also resided at the Stettener Schlösschen to the south. In the middle of the 15th century, Hans von Rechberg subsequently owned the castle. The end of the complex came in 1446 at the hands of the city of Schaffhausen, with whom Hans was feuding. He himself was able to flee in time, but the castle was destroyed down to its foundations. Afterwards, the ruined castle was again in the possession of the Lords of Reischach. They sold the Sunthausen castle site in 1588 to the Counts of Fürstenberg.

Of the former castle complex, which had a neck ditch 20 to 30 meters wide and 15 to 20 meters deep, only minor wall remains are preserved.
