Neuenriet Castle
Neuenriet Castle is the remnant of a spur castle on a rock spur about 1000 meters northeast of Altenriet in the fork between the Neckar and Höllbach rivers near Nürtingen in the Esslingen district of Baden-Württemberg.
Until 1466, the castle was a Württemberg fief in the changing possession of various noblemen. It was probably destroyed during the German Peasants' War in 1525. The castle was never rebuilt, and the last visible remains of the keep were sold and removed in 1823. Only minor wall remnants of the former castle complex remain.
A legend surrounds the castle, which is said to be the cause of the pretzel market held annually on Palm Sunday.
