Rabenau Castle
The Rabenau Castle remains, a former spur castle, are on a rocky outcrop above the Oelsabach valley in the town of the same name. Little remains today of the complex.
History+
The lordship of Rabenau was probably founded around the year 1200, with Kaitz Castle serving as its starting point. In 1227, the castle changed hands through purchase, coming into the possession of the Burgraves of Dohna. Its military significance ended in 1399, when Margrave Wilhelm I of Meissen conquered the complex during the Dohna Feud. Thereafter, the castle fell into disrepair, and in the 19th century, most of its remains were demolished, with the exception of a Gothic gate from 1560.

Today, the former outwork of the castle houses a museum. The remains of the original castle complex have largely disappeared, with only the Gothic gate from 1560 still preserved.
