The Roden Castle remains, also known as Rohden, are the sparse remnants of a former hilltop castle located on a plateau of the Amelungsberg ridge in the Süntel mountains. The site is situated near the Rohden district of Hessisch Oldendorf in the Hameln-Pyrmont district, Lower Saxony.

History+

Roden Castle was constructed between 1130 and 1140 by the Counts of Roden to expand their sphere of influence into the Weser Valley. At that time, the counts were allies of Henry the Lion in his conflict with Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, similar to the Counts of Holstein-Schaumburg.
