Rücklenburg Castle
The Rückenburg is the remnant of a hilltop castle on a mountain peak next to the street Alte Stadt No. 20 in the Hagen district of Holthausen in North Rhine-Westphalia. The castle remains are located within the Hünenpforte nature reserve.
The Rückenburg was probably built in the first half of the 13th century simultaneously with the nearby Raffenburg and destroyed around 1400, at roughly the same time as the latter.
Today, the castle site only shows the so-called cellar hole, a few remains of a ditch-and-wall system, and minor wall remains of buildings, presumably including a rectangular tower. The remains were rediscovered in 1982, along with those of a farmstead. Excavations yielded ceramic shards from the 13th century, crossbow bolts, and traces of fire.
