The origins of Salzhofen Castle likely date back to the 11th century. It is believed that counts from Kraichgau had the complex built during this period. Between 1933 and 1935, archaeological excavations were carried out at the site.

The castle ruin of Salzhofen is located at an elevation of approximately 224 meters above sea level, south of the town of Bretten in the Karlsruhe district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Visitors can currently explore the remaining parts of the castle ruin. These include the stump of the former keep and discernible rampart remnants.
