The Burgrest Schatzberg, also known as Schatzburg, is the ruin of a spur castle situated on a rocky outcrop. This complex, once owned by noble families, today offers an insight into the medieval past of Baden-Württemberg.

History+

Schatzberg Castle was built around the middle of the 13th century by the Lords of Schatzberg. The first documented mention of the complex dates back to 1267. The castle was destroyed by fire in 1442. The castle changed hands and was owned, among others, by the Counts of Montfort and the Habsburgs. The original complex included a curtain wall with a thickness of 0.9 meters and a keep with a base area of 9.5 by 7.5 meters and walls two meters thick.
