Old Castle Scheiden

The Scheiden Castle remains, also known as Altes Schloss, are the ruins of a hilltop castle in Saarland. It sits on the Adelsköpfchen near Losheim am See.

The origins of the Scheiden Castle remains are not documented by written records. Archaeological findings and the construction style of the preserved wall remnants suggest a dating to the 12th or 13th century. The complex was divided into a higher-lying upper castle, protected by a ditch, and a lower, larger lower castle. The upper castle was approximately rectangular and featured a reinforced shield wall facing the attack side. In the lower castle, traces of a rectangular building and a curtain wall with a gate are still visible.
