The castle remains of Straubenhardt, also known as the Straubenhardt ruin, are situated in the Enz district in Baden-Württemberg. This former Ganerbenburg was once a communal property.

History+

The origins of Straubenhardt Castle likely date back to the 11th century when it was established from Gräfenhausen. The Lords of Straubenhardt, a noble family probably originating from the Kraichgau, were mentioned as early as 1090 in documents of Hirsau Monastery and in the foundation charter of Herrenalb Monastery in 1148. The castle was expanded and developed into a Ganerbenburg, jointly owned by the Lords of Straubenhardt and the Lords of Schmalenstein, who were related to them. A decisive event was an attack in 1367, which Count Eberhard II of Württemberg narrowly escaped.
