The Absalon Castle Ruin in Copenhagen lies beneath Christiansborg Palace. This fortress played a role in defending the city.

History+

In 1167, Bishop Absalon commissioned the construction of a castle on the island of Slotsholmen. This fortification served to protect the city of Copenhagen. Absalon Castle stood for approximately two centuries until it was captured, plundered, and subsequently destroyed by the Hanseatic League in 1369.
