Alt-Geroldseck Castle
The castle ruin of Alt-Geroldseck, also known as Rauhkasten, is located on a spur hill near Seelbach-Schönberg. Its construction was undertaken in the 12th century by the Lords of Geroldseck, with its first documented mention dating back to 1139. In 1277, the complex was abandoned in favor of the nearby Hohengeroldseck Castle. The ruin is situated at an elevation of approximately 589 meters above sea level near Seelbach-Schönberg in the Ortenau district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Of the former castle complex, some wall remnants of the shield wall and the palas, as well as the neck ditch, are still preserved.
