Alt-Urach Castle
The Alt-Urach castle ruin is in Lenzkirch, at an elevation of approximately 842 meters above sea level. It is a medieval architectural site in the High Black Forest.
History+
In the 13th century, Alt-Urach Castle was built by the lords of Urach. It developed into the focal point of the Lenzkirch dominion in the 14th and 15th centuries and was owned by the Lords of Blumegg during this period. In 1491, it was sold to the Counts of Fürstenberg, although the complex was already described as an uninhabitable castle site at that time. Since 1972, the ruin has been owned by the municipality of Lenzkirch. The original castle complex, consisting of a square residential tower and a curtain wall, was extended with an attached house around 1404. Renovation work on the masonry was carried out in 1995/96 by the Schwarzwaldverein Lenzkirch.
