History+
Around 1200, Alt-Windeck Castle was built by the Lords of Windeck, a family with property and fiefs. As early as 1212, a Melchior von Windeck appeared in historical records, while the family was mentioned in 1248 as ministerials of the Bishop of Strasbourg. The castle itself was first documented in 1335. Through inheritance divisions, it quickly developed into a joint-heir castle. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Alt-Windeck was involved in conflicts with neighboring landowners, Strasbourg, and the Counts of Württemberg, but was never captured.
