Old Castle Burgsinn
The Alte Burg, also known as Altes Schloss, is the ruin of a moated castle in the market town of Burgsinn in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart in Bavaria.
The Alte Burg is located slightly northeast of the town center of Burgsinn, which is traversed by the Aura. The Aura flows into the flood ditch, a side arm of the Sinn river, about 240 meters south-southeast of the moated castle near the (open-air) swimming pool. The Sinn river flows in a north-south direction about 200 meters east of the castle complex.
The moated castle was owned by the Barons of Thüngen. In 1001, Knight Hildolf von Tüngenden exchanged "the village of Sinna with all its appurtenances" with the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg for his imperial fief in Thuringia.
It was not until 1303 that Gozo, Aplo, and Hermannus de Sinna resided in the castle. In 1317, it was a fief of the Rieneck counts. In 1337, the Bishop of Würzburg granted it, along with all its possessions, as a castle fief to Dietz von Tungden, who essentially built the castle standing today between 1339 and 1342 and sold it with all its possessions to his son Wilhelm von Thüngen in 1405.
The freehold Burgsinn Castle was later enfeoffed by Balthasar and Sigmund von Thüngen Brandenburg and has since been owned by the Andreasian line of the Thüngen family. Gottfried von Thüngen, the current owner, lives in France, so the castle is no longer inhabited.

The wide moat surrounding the castle is fed by an underground spring. On the west side, a bridge leads into the castle with a trapezoidal floor plan, whose corner points are formed by towers. The curtain wall consists of bunter sandstone ashlar, the rest of the masonry of rubble stone, and the southern residential building in the upper area of half-timbering.
The square northeast tower shows a raised small residential building. A pointed arch door leads into the southeast tower from 1543, which was completed by Martin I von Thüngen ("built much on the old castle"). The south wall was heavily altered with inserted windows, and the round arch gate at the southwest tower was provided with corbels.
The castle complex is dominated by the square five-story, 22-meter-high keep (12th century) made of ashlar with a side length of 8.50 meters and a high entrance to the castle courtyard located 8.50 meters up.
