Altsummerau Castle (Ruin)

The ruin of Altsummerau is the ruin of a hilltop castle south of the Argen river on the 500 m above sea level high Kapf near Rattenweiler, belonging to the Langnau district of the city of Tettnang in the Bodenseekreis in Baden-Württemberg.

The castle, built by the Lords of Summerau, was mentioned in 1152, was later owned by the Bishop of Constance, was renovated in the 13th century and destroyed between 1633 and 1660.

Of the former castle complex, relatively abundant remains of the keep with a secured vault and numerous wall remains secured over their entire length, i.e., essentially the entire defensive wall and foundations of other buildings, are still preserved. The castle offers a view, limited by the local deciduous forest, several hundred meters down a steep slope to the camping area near Laimnau-Badhütten (with a pedestrian bridge) and further up the Argen to Unter- and Oberlangnau.
