The Anebos castle ruin in the Palatinate Forest stands on a rock above Annweiler and, together with Trifels and Scharfenberg castles, forms the Trifels group.

History+

The construction of Anebos Castle is dated to the beginning of the 12th century based on archaeological findings. It served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Anebos, a family of imperial ministerials documented from the late 12th to the mid-13th century. A Marshal Eberhard von Anebos is mentioned in 1194 in the retinue of Emperor Henry VI, his brother Henry from 1196 as marshal. In the mid-13th century, the family appears to have died out.
