The Arbesbach Castle Ruin, also known as the “Molar of the Waldviertel,” is a high-altitude castle ruin on a granite rock in Lower Austria, Austria. Its exposed location and the remains of the keep make it a visible landmark of the region.

History+

The construction of Arbesbach Castle took place in the late 12th century under Hadmar II of Kuenring. It served as an outpost for Rappottenstein Castle and was part of the border fortifications against the Slavic territories to the north. In 1480, the castle suffered damage from a Bohemian raiding party and was subsequently not rebuilt.
