The Bärenburg castle ruin in the Rench Valley offers a glimpse into medieval defensive architecture. Located near Oppenau-Ramsbach in Baden-Württemberg, its history dates back to the 12th century.

History+

The origins of Bärenburg lie in the 12th century, when it was built by the Counts of Freiburg. Its first documented mention dates to the year 1307. The castle changed hands several times, including the Lords of Bärenbach and the Bishops of Strasbourg. After 1470, the decay of the complex began.
