The remains of the Castle can be visited

In the middle of a high valley near Morbach, the castle ruin Baldenau, a rare moated castle in the Hunsrück, rises. Its location and its feeding by the upper course of the Dhron make it medieval architecture in Rhineland-Palatinate.

History+

In 1315, Archbishop Balduin of Trier initiated the construction of Baldenau Castle to secure his territory. Originally, the founding of a town under the protection of the castle was planned, a plan that was never realized. The castle gave its name to the Electoral Trier office of Baldenau, which included fifteen surrounding villages.
