Blankenhorn Castle

Blankenhorn Castle was presumably built between 1220 and 1230 by the Lords of Neuffen, a Staufer ministerial family, and was first mentioned in a document in 1241. Its strategic location on the Rennweg, an important ridge path on the Stromberg, was crucial for its construction. The Lords of Neuffen attempted to establish a consolidated dominion around Güglingen but failed within a few generations. After the death of Heinrich II von Neuffen, the castle passed to his son, the minnesinger Gottfried von Neuffen, whose heirs divided the property.
